- Università degli Studi di Genova – public, all disciplines; campuses in Savona (engineering, sport sciences), La Spezia (naval and yacht engineering, design), Imperia (tourism economics, law)
- Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) – research foundation, English-taught PhDs in robotics, nanotechnology, neuroscience

Where and in which language
The University of Genoa is a medium-sized university, strong in engineering (naval, robotics, computer science), medicine and marine sciences, with some English-taught master's degrees; the outlying campuses are small and tied to local economies (yachting in La Spezia, tourism in Imperia). Genoa is cheaper than Milan and Turin for rent and the historic centre houses many students; night-time public transport is limited, though.
Grants and halls
Student support is managed by ALiSEO (Ligurian Agency for Students and Guidance), which publishes the annual call for grants, beds in the university halls of Genoa, Savona, La Spezia and Imperia, canteens and contributions, with online application and the university ISEE; the agency also handles guidance for secondary schools.
