Rail

Regional rail is contracted by the Region to Trenitalia; around Turin runs the Metropolitan Rail Service (SFM), with regular-interval lines reaching Ivrea, Chivasso, Pinerolo, Susa, Fossano, Caselle airport and Ceres. Connections with Milan are frequent (fast regional and high-speed trains from Porta Susa and Porta Nuova). Several secondary lines have been suspended for years or are run with buses: anyone choosing a home in the provinces should check the station's actual timetable.

BIP and fares

BIP (Biglietto Integrato Piemonte) is the regional electronic ticketing system: a card or the app let you load passes and tickets valid on participating operators (GTT in Turin, Trenitalia regional, the urban and suburban companies of the provinces). Actual integrated fares are organised by basin: in Turin the Formula pass covers urban and suburban zones and rail.

Airports, passes, cycling

Turin Caselle airport (TRN) is linked to the centre by SFM line A and buses; Cuneo Levaldigi (CUF) has few flights. Many Piedmontese also use Milan Malpensa. To France: the Fréjus tunnel (Bardonecchia–Modane, tolled), the Montgenèvre pass (open all year), the Maddalena pass and the Tenda pass (tunnel); the high passes close in winter. To Switzerland: the Simplon pass from Domodossola, with the rail tunnel to Brig. The VENTO cycle route along the Po and the Langhe cycle network are expanding.
