Rail
Regional service is contracted to Trenitalia: fast regional trains Venice–Padua–Vicenza–Verona every half hour, lines to Treviso, Belluno, Bassano, Rovigo, Castelfranco, Portogruaro and Udine; high-speed rail links Venice and Padua with Milan, Bologna and Rome. The infrastructure of the Adria–Mestre line is managed by Infrastrutture Venete, which took over from Sistemi Territoriali after regional law 40/2018. Venice has two stations: Santa Lucia (on the island) and Mestre (mainland); many commuters and students live in Mestre or Padua.
Fares and Venice
There is no single regional ticket: each basin has its own operator (ACTV in Venice, Busitalia in Padua, ATV in Verona, MOM in Treviso, SVT in Vicenza, Dolomitibus in Belluno) and the Region promotes train+bus combined tickets for individual areas. In Venice ACTV water buses are expensive per single ride: multi-day visitors use Venezia Unica time passes; residents and workers get reduced fares with the card. In the lagoon the car ferry links Tronchetto with the Lido.
Airports, passes, cycling
Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is linked to Piazzale Roma and Mestre by bus and to San Marco by Alilaguna boats; Treviso Canova (TSF) is the low-cost airport; Verona Villafranca (VRN) serves Garda and the western Dolomites. The Belluno–Calalzo railway is the rail terminus towards Cortina. Cycle routes: Lake Garda (the cantilevered section is under construction), the Sile from Treviso to Jesolo, Treviso–Ostiglia, VENTO along the Po and the Dolomites cycle path on the former Calalzo–Cortina–Dobbiaco railway.
