Getting around: metro, funiculars, Circumvesuviana, Alibus, UnicoCampania
The network is run by several operators — ANM (metro Lines 1 and 6, funiculars, buses, trams), Trenitalia (Line 2), EAV (Circumvesuviana, Cumana, Circumflegrea) — integrated in UnicoCampania tickets. Capodichino airport is a few kilometres from the centre, linked by the Alibus. The old centre and Chiaia have camera-controlled ZTLs; driving is not advisable.

The network
Metro Line 1 (ANM): from Piscinola in the north it descends through Vomero, Museo, Dante, Toledo (the "art stations") to Municipio, Università and Garibaldi/Central Station; it is the city's main axis. Line 2 (Trenitalia): a through railway from Pozzuoli to San Giovanni-Barra via Campi Flegrei, Mergellina, Piazza Amedeo, Montesanto, Piazza Cavour, Garibaldi and Gianturco; useful for Fuorigrotta and the stadium. Line 6 (ANM): from Mostra/Fuorigrotta to Municipio via Mergellina and Chiaia, reopened in 2024.
Four funiculars (Centrale, Chiaia, Montesanto, Mergellina) link the centre and Chiaia to the Vomero and Posillipo hills. EAV runs the suburban railways: the Circumvesuviana from Porta Nolana/Garibaldi to Herculaneum, Pompeii, Sorrento and the Vesuvian towns; the Cumana and Circumflegrea from Montesanto to Fuorigrotta, Bagnoli, Pozzuoli and the Campi Flegrei; the Naples–Aversa line. ANM buses and trams complete the network, with irregular frequencies.
Tickets
The UnicoCampania consortium issues integrated tickets valid on all operators: urban time ticket, day ticket, monthly and annual passes for the Naples urban area and for the suburban bands. Single-operator tickets are valid only on that operator's vehicles. Updated prices are on the consortium's website and in the data below.
Airport, port, stations
Capodichino airport is inside the city, about 6 km from the Central Station; ANM's Alibus links it to the Central Station (piazza Garibaldi) and to the port (Molo Beverello/Molo Angioino) with frequent runs and a dedicated ticket. Napoli Centrale/Garibaldi is the hub for high-speed trains (Rome in just over an hour) and regional services; Afragola, outside the city, is the second high-speed station. From the port, hydrofoils and ferries leave for Capri, Ischia, Procida (Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa), the Sorrento coast and the smaller islands.
ZTL and cars
The Comune has set up camera-controlled ZTLs in the old centre (Tarsia-Pignasecca-Dante, Centro antico, Belledonne-Martiri-Poerio in Chiaia, Morelli-Filangieri-Mille) and pedestrian zones on the seafront and via Toledo; hours vary by zone and entering without a permit is fined. Parking is paid almost everywhere in central areas and availability is scarce; driving in the city is demanding because of traffic and the layout of the streets. For those living in the centre or on the hill a car is a cost without benefits; it is useful mainly for trips out of town.
