Health care: ULSS 6 Euganea and the University Hospital
The city belongs to the Padova Bacchiglione district of ULSS 6 Euganea, which covers the province's 100 municipalities with five districts. The Padua University Hospital (via Giustiniani and Sant'Antonio Hospital) is one of Italy's largest hospital hubs; since May 2026 the 116117 number answers for out-of-hours care.

ULSS 6 Euganea and the city district
Territorial care is run by the ULSS 6 Euganea health authority, which covers the 100 municipalities of the province of Padua (about 936,000 inhabitants) with five socio-health districts; the city belongs to District 1 Padova Bacchiglione. The districts run primary care, family counselling centres, palliative care, disability services and territorial pharmaceutical assistance.
The University Hospital
The Azienda Ospedale-Università Padova, integrated with the university, has its main site at via Giustiniani 2 and also includes the Sant'Antonio Hospital at via Facciolati 71. On its “I dati dell'Azienda” page it declares 1,740 beds, 68,432 admissions, 161,884 emergency department visits and 572 transplants, with 64 recognised regional centres: it is one of Italy's main hospital and transplant hubs. The emergency department orders access by clinical severity, not by arrival: for symptoms compatible with an ordinary visit, contact your GP or the out-of-hours service instead.
Out-of-hours doctor and 116117
Since 19 May 2026 the free 116117 number, active 24 hours a day across the whole ULSS 6 territory, gives access to the out-of-hours service (ex guardia medica) and territorial services, with language support for non-Italian speakers. In Padua the out-of-hours clinic is at via dei Colli 4 (phone-answering site at via Gemona 8); shifts cover nights, pre-holidays and holidays.
