Who covers the city
Local healthcare and hospitals belong to a single Azienda USL-IRCCS di Reggio Emilia, organised as one provincial hospital spread over several sites: the Santa Maria Nuova Arcispedale in the city is the hub, flanked by the five spoke hospitals of Guastalla, Correggio, Montecchio, Scandiano and Castelnovo ne' Monti. On 31 December 2024 the network counted 1,542 public beds.
Santa Maria Nuova Arcispedale
The Santa Maria Nuova, at viale Risorgimento 80, is the provincial reference hospital: over 30 diagnostic and care specialties, an Emergency Room and Emergency Medicine, the CORE (Oncology and Haematology Centre) and IRCCS research activity. For territorial emergencies it works within the Emilia Nord wide area through the 118 operations centre in Parma; in an emergency call 112.
CAU and out-of-hours doctor: one number
For urgent but non-serious problems you call the single non-urgent care number, 0522 290001, active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: a health professional directs you to the CAU or to the out-of-hours service (ex guardia medica). The Reggio Emilia CAU is at via Brigata Reggio 22, open since December 2023; the other CAUs in the province are in Correggio and Scandiano.
