Getting around: Busitalia buses, lifts and escalators, Airlink, port

Buses are run by Busitalia Campania, with tickets from the regional UnicoCampania system and contactless tickets on board. Public lifts and escalators run by Salerno Mobilità link the hillside districts. Salerno Airlink goes to the Costa d'Amalfi airport; a Busitalia bus also links the centre with Naples Capodichino. The port has Zaha Hadid's Maritime Station.

Buses and tickets

Urban, suburban and extra-urban lines are run by Busitalia Campania. Tickets follow the regional UnicoCampania fare scheme and are sold at authorised retailers, through the UnicoCampania app or the Busitalia Campania app; Salerno urban tickets and extra-urban tickets can also be bought on board with a contactless card.

Lifts, escalators and parking

Salerno Mobilità, the Comune's in-house company, runs the public installations that link the hillside districts: the via Velia–piazza Principe Amedeo lift, the via Fusandola–piazza Matteo D'Aiello/via Torquato Tasso lift and the via Indipendenza–via Monti escalator, free and open every day; the free via Alfonso Gatto lift to the cemetery, with hours tied to the cemetery's; and the lift in Vietri sul Mare. Hours can change by municipal resolution, especially on public holidays. The same company runs paid parking areas with meters, parking passes and permits for residents of the ZPRU zones.

Airports and port

Salerno Airlink links Salerno station with Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento airport in about 30 minutes, every day, with timetables that follow the flights and its own ticket. Busitalia also runs a connection between central Salerno and Naples Capodichino airport. The commercial port is also a passenger terminal, with the Maritime Station designed by Zaha Hadid a short walk from the centre.
