Universities

The Alma Mater Studiorum is among Italy's most international universities: the historic humanities, law and science faculties are in via Zamboni and the surrounding streets (the university district), economics and political science in Strada Maggiore and via Belle Arti, engineering and architecture at Terracini and viale Risorgimento, agriculture and veterinary medicine at Ozzano, medicine at Sant'Orsola, plus the campuses of Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini. The offering includes dozens of bachelor's and master's degrees taught entirely in English and many doctorates; the international portal lists courses, requirements and deadlines. The city also hosts the Academy of Fine Arts, the Martini Conservatory, Johns Hopkins SAIS Europe and schools of design and cinema.

Student support

ER.GO (the regional agency for the right to higher education) manages grants, places in university residences, meals in affiliated canteens and mobility contributions; the call opens in summer with rankings by ISEE income and merit, and beds are in high demand. The University negotiates discounted annual TPER passes for students; many get around by bike.

Where students live

The university district between via Zamboni, piazza Verdi, via Petroni and via delle Belle Arti is the heart of student life, with departmental libraries, study rooms and bars; rooms are also found in Cirenaica, San Donato, Bolognina, Saragozza and Porto. Municipal study rooms and the Salaborsa are alternatives to university libraries during exam periods. The room market is tight: start looking from June.
