Shopping and markets

The covered municipal market at the Darsena, in piazza XXIV Maggio, is the reference for fruit, fish and delicatessen. The weekly street market on viale Papiniano, ten minutes' walk from Porta Genova, is among the largest in the city and runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays (days and hours in the official list cited). On Saturdays the Darsena hosts the Fiera di Sinigaglia (second-hand, vintage, records). Neighbourhood supermarkets on corso Colombo, via Vigevano and along the Naviglio Pavese; there is no large store within five minutes.

Green space and libraries

Green space is fragmented: Parco Don Giussani (formerly Parco Solari) beyond the Porta Genova railway, with a covered municipal swimming pool; Parco delle Basiliche between Sant'Eustorgio and San Lorenzo; small gardens along the Naviglio Pavese. The towpaths serve as promenade and cycle route towards the countryside of the Parco Agricolo Sud. The local municipal library is Fra Cristoforo (via Fra Cristoforo 6) on the Naviglio Pavese; the central Sormani library is twenty minutes on foot.

Health, schools, services

Health: ATS Città Metropolitana di Milano for GP registration and local services; the nearest hospitals are San Paolo (via di Rudinì, reached by M2 Famagosta) and the Policlinico in the centre. Schools: state nursery, primary and middle schools in Municipio 6, the Liceo linguistico Manzoni on via Orazio near Porta Genova. At weekends services (pharmacies, laundries) stay open more than elsewhere, but Monday-morning street cleaning follows the weekend nights.
