Metro
Cavour station on metro B is in via Cavour, a short walk from piazza della Madonna dei Monti: one stop takes you to Termini, the other way to Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Piramide and down to EUR and Laurentina. Colosseo station, at the southern edge of the rione, is the interchange between line B and line C (Pantano – San Giovanni – Colosseo). Termini, with lines A and B, is about ten minutes on foot from the upper part of the rione along via Cavour or via Urbana.
ATAC publishes the status of lifts and stairlifts on its website: at Colosseo the B–C interchange by lift was limited for works in autumn 2026.
Buses, trams and night
No public transport runs through the inner rione: buses use via Nazionale (towards piazza Venezia and Termini), via Cavour and via dei Fori Imperiali, with lines to Trastevere, St Peter's, Piramide and San Giovanni. The nearest tram is line 3 at Colosseo/Labicana and Porta Maggiore. At night, with the metro closed, ATAC night lines nMB and nMA follow the routes of lines B and A and stop at Cavour, Colosseo and Termini; the night network map is on the ATAC website.
Trains, airports, on foot
Termini is the gateway to everything: the Leonardo Express and FL1 regional trains to Fiumicino Aeroporto, buses to Ciampino, high-speed trains to the rest of Italy. From Monti you can walk to piazza Venezia in ten minutes, to Trevi and the Quirinale in ten, to San Giovanni in twenty along via Merulana. Shared bikes and e-scooters are available but the slopes and cobblestones discourage them; via dei Fori Imperiali is pedestrianised at weekends and on public holidays.
