Metro and trains

San Lorenzo has no metro stations, but sits between two railway nodes. Termini station (metro A and B, Leonardo Express to Fiumicino, buses to Ciampino, national trains) is ten to fifteen minutes on foot through Porta Tiburtina and via Marsala, or by the buses on via Tiburtina. Tiburtina station (metro B, high-speed trains, regional FL1 to Fiumicino Aeroporto and FL2) is about twenty minutes on foot along via Tiburtina or a few stops by tram and bus. For Fiumicino airport you therefore choose between the Leonardo Express from Termini and the FL1 from Tiburtina.

Trams and buses

Trams 3 and 19 run along via dei Reti and piazzale del Verano: the 3 towards Porta Maggiore, San Giovanni, Colosseo, Piramide and Trastevere one way and towards the Policlinico and Valle Giulia the other, the 19 towards the Policlinico, Villa Borghese and Prati or towards the Prenestina. On via Tiburtina the works for the new tramway are under way and change bus stops and routes.

Buses on via Tiburtina link Termini, Tiburtina station and the Policlinico Umberto I; on the other side, via dello Scalo San Lorenzo leads to Porta Maggiore and Pigneto.

Night, bikes, on foot

At night the ATAC night lines that follow metro B (nMB) stop at Termini and Tiburtina, both walkable from the district; the up-to-date map of the n lines is on the ATAC website. Shared bikes and e-scooters are widely used by students to reach the Sapienza and Termini; the district is flat but via Tiburtina is busy. On foot: the university campus in five minutes, Termini in fifteen, Esquilino and piazza Vittorio in fifteen through Porta Tiburtina or Porta Maggiore, Pigneto in twenty.
