Studying in Turin

Two large public universities: the Politecnico di Torino (engineering, architecture, design, many master's degrees in English) and the University of Turin (all other fields, with campuses across the city). EDISU Piemonte runs grants, residences and canteens. San Salvario, Vanchiglia, Crocetta and Aurora are the student districts.

Universities

The Politecnico di Torino has its main campus on Corso Duca degli Abruzzi (Cittadella Politecnica, Crocetta district), the Castello del Valentino for architecture and the Lingotto hub for design. It offers bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering, architecture, planning and design; a substantial share of master's programmes is taught entirely in English and the university has a high proportion of international students. Admission is through its own tests (TIL) with several sessions a year.

The Università degli Studi di Torino covers the other fields: law, economics, humanities, languages, political and social sciences (Campus Luigi Einaudi, Vanchiglia), medicine (Molinette and San Luigi in Orbassano), sciences (Via Pietro Giuria and Grugliasco), agriculture and veterinary medicine (Grugliasco), psychology and education. Palazzo Nuovo, on Via Sant'Ottavio, is the historic home of the humanities. Some programmes are in English; the current list is on the universities' pages.

The offer is completed by the Accademia Albertina of Fine Arts, the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, private design schools (IAAD, IED) and ESCP Business School with a Turin campus.

Student support and housing

The regional student support agency is EDISU Piemonte: every summer it publishes the single call for scholarships, beds in its residences and subsidised canteen rates, based on ISEE income and merit; international students submit translated and legalised income documents from their home country. EDISU residences are spread across the city (Borgo Dora, Lingotto, Crocetta, San Paolo and others) and are the cheapest option, but places do not cover demand.

On the private market students look for rooms in San Salvario and Vanchiglia (near Porta Nuova and Palazzo Nuovo), in Crocetta and San Paolo (Politecnico), in Aurora and Barriera di Milano (cheaper, a few tram minutes from the Einaudi campus). The housing offices of both universities publish vetted listings and agreements with private student halls.
