Rail

The coastal railway links all towns from Ventimiglia (French border) to La Spezia and Sarzana, with Trenitalia regional trains under a regional contract, Intercity and Frecce to Milan, Turin and Rome; the doubling of the line in the west moved some stations out of town centres. Between Levanto and La Spezia the Cinque Terre Express stops in all five villages with a higher tourist fare in season. From Genoa lines run to Milan, Turin and Acqui-Alessandria; the Terzo Valico (high-capacity Genoa–Milan line) is under construction.

Buses and roads

In Genoa AMT runs urban and provincial buses, the metro (one line), public lifts and funiculars, with tickets integrated with trains within the municipality; La Spezia (ATC), Savona (TPL Linea) and Imperia (Riviera Trasporti) have their own companies. There is no single regional ticket. The A10, A12, A7 and A26 motorways are winding and subject to roadworks and queues; the San Giorgio bridge replaced the Morandi viaduct in 2020.

Airport, ferries, cycling

Genoa airport (GOA, Cristoforo Colombo) is at Sestri Ponente, linked by train (Sestri Ponente Aeroporto station with shuttle) and the Volabus; many Ligurians also use Nice, Pisa and Milan. The ports of Genoa, Savona-Vado and La Spezia offer ferries to Sardinia (Olbia, Porto Torres), Corsica (Bastia), Sicily (Palermo), Spain (Barcelona), Tunisia and Morocco, and are among the leading cruise ports in the Mediterranean. The Riviera dei Fiori cycle path (former railway, from San Lorenzo al Mare to Ospedaletti, 24 km) is the best-known stretch of the Tyrrhenian cycle route.
