Rail
The Brenner railway (Verona–Trento–Bolzano–Bressanone–Brenner) is the backbone: regular-interval regional trains, Intercity and Eurocity to Innsbruck and Munich; the Brenner base tunnel is under construction. In Trentino the Trento–Malè–Mezzana line (Val di Non and Val di Sole) is run by Trentino Trasporti, the Valsugana line (Trento–Bassano) by Trenitalia. In South Tyrol the Val Venosta (Merano–Malles), Pusteria (Fortezza–San Candido–Lienz) and Merano–Bolzano lines form a single integrated network with the buses.
Integrated fares
In South Tyrol the südtirolmobil/altoadigemobilità system integrates all regional trains, buses and some cable cars under one fare: the Alto Adige Pass charges per kilometre at decreasing rates with an annual cap; guests often receive a free mobility card from their accommodation. In Trentino, Trentino Trasporti runs urban buses (Trento, Rovereto) and suburban lines, the Trento–Sardagna cable car and ski buses; the tourist Guest Card includes public transport. The two provinces have separate fares and apps.
Airports, passes, cycling
Bolzano airport has few scheduled regional flights; people use Verona Villafranca (about an hour from Trento), Innsbruck, Munich, Venice and Milan. The Dolomite passes (Sella, Gardena, Pordoi, Campolongo, Falzarego, Rolle) are open almost all year except during snowfalls, with experimental traffic limits on some summer days; the Stelvio closes from November to late May. The cycle network is among the best in Italy: the Adige/Etschradweg cycle path from Resia to Verona, Valle Isarco, Pusteria, Valsugana and Garda.
