Getting around Padua: the SIR1 tram and the new lines
The SIR1 tram line has linked Pontevigodarzere and Guizza since 2007; SIR3 (station–Voltabarozzo) and SIR2 (Rubano–Padua–Vigonza) are under construction; according to the December 2025 presentation, SIR2 is planned from 2027. On ecological Sundays the historic centre is closed to combustion-engine vehicles.

Tram
SIR1, in service since March 2007, runs for about 10.5 kilometres on the north–south axis from Pontevigodarzere to Guizza, with 26 stops, a tram every 6–7 minutes and 34 minutes from end to end. According to the SMART system presentation to the Ministry of Infrastructure (December 2025), the SIR3 route runs from the railway station to Voltabarozzo, about 5.5 kilometres and 12 stops; SIR2, from Rubano to Vigonza through Padua, about 17.5 kilometres and 37 stops, was planned from 2027. The sustainable mobility plan (PUMS) foresees extensions of SIR1 towards Cadoneghe and towards Albignasego-Maserà and of SIR3 towards Legnaro: the aim is a metropolitan tram network.
Car
In the 2025/26 season the municipality set seven ecological Sundays, from 8.30 to 18.30, on which the historic centre is closed to cars and motorcycles with combustion or hybrid engines; the ZTL rules remain in force where compatible. Some through routes, including the Prato della Valle axis, stay open.
