Overview

What kind of city

Ragusa is one of the eight towns of the UNESCO site "Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto", inscribed in 2002: rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake, beside or on top of existing settlements. At Ragusa, the UNESCO entry notes, a new urban centre was created next to the ancient one; the historic part of Ibla has a detailed plan and a special regional law for restoring buildings.

What newcomers find

The municipality runs infopoints at the Castello di Donnafugata and at Marina di Ragusa, a coastal locality with a civil protection post. The University of Catania has in Ragusa a Special Teaching Structure, active since October 2022, with degree courses in languages, economics, agriculture and sport science.
