Getting around from Chiaia

Three stations on Line 6, opened in July 2024: Chiaia, San Pasquale and Arco Mirelli, with a change for Line 1 at Municipio and for Line 2 at Mergellina. In the upper streets around via Crispi and via Schipa, bus service is a problem the municipalità itself has raised.

Line 6

Line 6 was inaugurated on 16 July 2024 and links Fuorigrotta to piazza Municipio with eight stations: Mostra, Augusto, Lala, Mergellina, Arco Mirelli, San Pasquale, Chiaia and Municipio. A first four-stop section between Mostra and Mergellina had opened in 2007 and closed in 2014 for the new project. At Municipio you change for Line 1, at Mergellina for Line 2.

The quarter's stations

Chiaia station, designed by Uberto Siola with an art intervention by Peter Greenaway, links two levels of the city: the main entrance is on piazza Santa Maria degli Angeli and a route leads down to via Chiaia; a circular ramp runs from Monte di Dio to via Chiaia. San Pasquale, by Boris Podrecca, is a five-level structure. Arco Mirelli, by Hans Kollhoff, is a glass-and-steel pavilion at the western edge of the Villa Comunale, level with piazza della Repubblica.

Buses in the upper streets

In February 2023 the Mobility committee of Municipalità 1 asked ANM to restore bus line C24, discontinued in 2018, because via Crispi and via Schipa had been left without public transport and the outpatient clinic at via Schipa 9 could only be reached on foot or by private vehicle. Anyone considering a home in that part of the quarter should check the lines currently running on the ANM website.
